1. Current Release Features

Document Templates can now be created and managed within PubMan, and New Document tools allow users to select templates and create new documents within PubMan. This gives users the option to bypass using templates from their local drives and checking them in. Users have the option to move right from creating the document to an editing environment, an especially attractive option for users with XMAX®.

New PMSearch with XQuery support. The addition of PMSearch to your system includes a database structure upgrade that implements the new XML Datatype in SQL Server.

Note: No further DtSearch development will be done and new PubMan installations will ship without it, but it will be supported for existing installations for 6 - 9 months following this release, allowing a smooth transition.

A new CSA (Concept Scheme Application) allows users to create semantic webs of their documents. The CSA Management tools let them configure their own collections of subjects and manage their relationships to other subjects. The CSA Browse/Edit tools let them browse documents by subject classifications, and make bulk assignments of documents to subjects. XML import and export functionality for the subject webs make this a powerful tool for importing existing document classifications and publishing the classifications to web portals.
'Public' Jobs in Workflow, allowing users to share jobs and non-admin users to (re-)assign tasks.
A Show all links tool has been added to document display pages, with an advanced set of views for document links.
Package document lists now show the sortkeys of the first and last documents in the list.
Previous/Next/Begin/End arrows for ListPackages and ListTitles
The Check In form now has the option to add the documents being check in to selected Packages.

Note: This release originally included XMetaL ActiveX support, which was split into an earlier release (2.25—the current version).

2. Release 2.4 Features

Changes to the PMSearch:
- The query form gets a larger text control for entering XQueries
- The query list items get a new load button to reload a query rather than having to rerun it. This allows you to edit the query as needed before running, making use of query templates a lot more practical. (The re-execute and edit query name functions will still be present.)
- Using Save Query will automatically toggle the personal setting to 'y'.
- Search results list items will get the same check out button they have in Title or Package document lists.
Package sharing. Package owners may choose to share a package, making the list of documents editable by others.
Site-specific settings for document list column headings.
Document list navigation features will be added to CSA document lists.
Bug fix: Duplicate list items in the CSA document lists (showing documents linked to a particular subject) will be eliminated.
User groups will be added to user management functions. This will facilitate easier management of permissions.
Permissions settings for Utility applications.
New:Bulk Check In and Check Out. This utility application will allow asynchronous check out and check in of large numbers of documents. No more waiting to carry on your work, or resource issues!

Note: This release will end the development of version 2 of PubMan. See version 3 development below.

3. PubMan 3.0 Features

New UI development environment: .NET 3.5
PubMan development will move from the .NET 1.1 Framework to the .NET 3.5 Framework, allowing us to pursue a significant UI overhaul that will substantially reduce the number of pages and page refreshes.
Asynchronous Check In and Check Out. Users will have the option of not waiting for large data requests. They can run them in the background and receive a message when the request is complete.

Support for XMetaL ActiveX (XMAX) editor. If you have XMAX installed and an XMAX customization set for the DTD / Schema a Title uses, you will be able to edit documents in the browser via QuickEditX. (This takes care of Check In and Check Out for you--no downloads necessary.)
Out-of the box support for: Gentoo Documentation schema, MODS schema (MODS)
Multiselect for Titles/Packages in report requests.

Schema-aware XSL 2.0/XPath 2.0/XML Namespaces support introduced through implementation of Saxonica.NET for document transformations.
Upgrade to SQL 2005 database (from SQL 2K).
Under the covers: the source code has been reconfigured into Core, Business, and Data layers, paving the way for AJAX to be used for new UI features and easier integration of utility applications.
Multiple site urls now allowed so user groups can have their own subdomains
Ability to set site-specific link to internal documentation set now available
Ability to set site-specific switch to choose sort order of titles (by id or name)

Previously released:

Selection added to Package drop down menu for creating a new package. This bypasses having to go to the Packages page to create a new Package.
New support page added.
Unicode compliancy in PubMan has been implemented and tested. Installation of this release includes a required update to your database tables.
Package details now list permissions and all tasks the Package is associated with.
A user configurable setting for stopping the download from one-click check out functions has been implemented
A user configurable setting for adding toolbars to the Check Out form has been implemented
The Titles listing in Search is now sorted on the title, not the Title id.
Filenaming of report spreadsheets has been improved.
Document listings no longer show the last document from the previous page.
‘Also Found In’ on the document display page now sorts keys from the current Title first.
Check in error files are now numbered.
Save and Cancel buttons have been added to the top of the Quick Edit page
Updated and improved documentation.
