Introducing Integrations, the Data Process Manager
Most publishers or content providers of any scale have requirements for processing
data—potentially large amounts of it—via defined procedures. Some examples:
- Import and export of data from internal or external sources, potentially with pre- or post-processing. Such processes can be used to automate the import of data, or to handle export of content to your print or digital publishing channels.
- Automation of global updates to content, or generation of derived content (such as indexes or derivative products).
- Handling of data validation, or generation of reports.
In the past, the wide scope of these types of processes might have made their creation,
management, and scheduling a difficult if not unachievable goal. IDM has introduced
a new Integrations tool kit that now provides the solution, by providing a toolkit
for data administrators to create and manage processes, and an interface for those
with permissions to run processes to make requests. Integrations consists of:
- A Java-based (Eclipse) Software Development Kit (SDK) and a Tools library of reusable scripts suitable authoring and testing Integration processes, with a technical documentation, a help file, and a debugger.
- An SVN Repository (a standard source code controller) where processes definitions
and scripts are versioned and stored with authentication and backup capabilities.
- A web-based Process Launcher where available processes are listed and made available
for on-demand or scheduled execution.

Integrations has APIs for working with the IDM content management and delivery tools, allowing it to be the glue that binds larger scale solutions, but it can also be used as a standalone tool for designing processes that communicate between many types of applications and data sources.
